This posting is a list of important materials for students enrolled in my JPNS 1001 course at the University of Georgia, or for anyone who wishes to study along with us. Please feel free to leave a comment if you notice problems with any of the links, want something else included, etc. If you are enrolled in the course or will be following along with us, please be sure to create a profile on this site and join the "JPNS 1001 @ UGA" group to ensure that you receive important notifications about the course.
- Course syllabus (This is an outline of the course, mainly for classroom students)
- Course texts
- Genki I (main textbook) (This is the main textbook for the course. Most lectures are based upon the content of this book.)
- Genki I workbook (This workbook provides for practice with the various grammar points, etc. Most assigned homework will be from this book.)
- Remembering the Kana (This book provides an excellent way to learn the hiragana and katakana. If you don't know what that means, then you definitely want this book. If you're already comfortable reading kana, then it is optional.)
- Course schedule (This is a schedule of all significant course dates--tests, quizzes, assignments, etc.)
- "G-Time" project overview (Details related to a major course project--required for classroom students, optional otherwise)
- Getting started with Anki (kana decks) (A walkthrough showing you how to download and use Anki, a wonderful flashcard programt that we will be using throughout the course. Required for classroom students, optional but strongly recommended for others.)
- "Genkier" podcasts (These are my lectures related to the book content. You should listen to each of these as you progress through the course.)
- on iTunes, or
- on the web
- JPNS 1001 Google group (This Google Group mainly functions as a mailing list for current and past students. Use it as an alternative to the JwTS site, if you prefer email to forum postings)
