The following is a list of the Genkier podcasts, Anki decks, and other resources. I will update this list as new resources are made available.
Genkier (enhanced) podcasts
These podcasts are "enhanced" with images to accompany the narration in the podcast. I recommend that you use these podcasts in preference to the "MP3" versions, below. You can either view the podcasts online, or using a video iPod or compatible device (is there such a thing?)
You can subscribe to the Genkier (enhanced) podcasts using iTunes, or you can subscribe to the feed using an RSS feed reader, or you can access each file individually using the following links:
- An overview of the Japanese writing system
- Lesson 1, Grammar note 1
- Lesson 1, Grammar note 2
- Lesson 1, Grammar note 3
- Lesson 2, Grammar note 1
- Lesson 2, Grammar note 2
- Lesson 2, Grammar note 3
- Lesson 3, Kanji
- Lesson 3, Grammar note 1
- Lesson 3, Grammar note 2
- Lesson 3, Grammar note 3
- Lesson 4, Kanji
- Lesson 4, Grammar note 1
- Lesson 4, Grammar note 2
- Lesson 4, Grammar note 3
- Lesson 5, Kanji
- Lesson 5, Grammar note 1
- Lesson 5, Grammar note 2
- Lesson 5, Grammar note 3
Genkier (audio only) podcasts
These podcasts do not contain the images that are in the "enhanced" version. These are MP3 (audio only) files, which will allow you to use them with a wider variety of devices. The files are also a little bit smaller. I recommend that you watch the "enhanced" version of each lesson the first time that you study it, but these files might be useful for review, especially if you wish to do so at a time when you won't be able to watch the visuals (driving, exercising, using a non-video iPod, etc).
You can subscribe to the Genkier (audio only) podcasts using iTunes, or you can subscribe to the feed using an RSS feed reader.
Anki decks
The following are a list of Anki decks that I created for vocabulary and kanji review. If you aren't familiar with it, Anki is a spaced repetition flashcard application that you should definitely be using to study Japanese. This page gives an overview of how to get started using Anki with the Lesson 1&2 kana deck.
- Lesson 1&2, kana (no sound)
- Lesson 1&2, kana (with recorded voice)
- Lesson 1, vocabulary
- Lesson 2, vocabulary
- Lesson 3, kanji
- Lesson 3, vocabulary
- Lesson 4, kanji
- Lesson 4, vocabulary
- Lesson 5, kanji
- Lesson 5, vocabulary
- Lesson 6, kanji

Hi, Hank. I'm sorry that it took me so long to respond to your post. I'm usually quicker after you register—most posts from unregistered users are from spam bots, so it takes me a while to find the real ones... (--;
If you're using an iPod classic, then I don't think that you can play extended podcasts with videos (can you with other video podcasts?)
Since a lot of the content is pretty difficult to understand without the visuals, you may want to just watch them through iTunes or online through a browser.
Thanks for listening! =)
Hi Tony, Thanks for the
Hi Tony,
Thanks for the awesome website. I've been looking for something like this. I'd like to use these video lessons with my compatible iPod classic, but when I download your episodes from the iTunes Podcast page, I only receive audio. Have you had this happen before? Is there a certain way I should download the video?
Thanks again,
Hank
